About the Great Pyramid
The Great Pyramid of Giza is one of the seven wonders of the ancient world and it is the only wonder which is existing. It is located in Giza city of Egypt. It is the oldest and largest pyramid among the three pyramids in Giza necropolis, Egypt.
It was built by the Egyptian king named Pharoah Khufu in 26th century BC. Pharoah was the king of the 4th dynasty. it is also known as the Pyramid of Khufu because it is served as the tomb for the 4th dynasty Egyptian King Paroha Khufu.
About The great Pyramid of Giza construction
It is believed that the pyramid have been built over a period of around 20 years and nearly 100,000 men worked its construction. The pyramid was constructed using limestone, granite and basalt. When it was built the original height of the pyramid was 146.5 m that is 481 feet. The great Pyramid of Giza was the tallest structure on the the Earth for more than 43 centuries. Over the years the smooth limestone casing got removed and the height of the pyramid was dropped. Present the height of the pyramid is 138.5 m that is 454.4 feet. The base of the pyramid is square with each side measuring 229 m that is 751 feet in length, it covers about 13 acres of land. The pyramid structure consists of nearly 2 million blocks of stones and each stone weighing more than 2 tons.
What’s inside the great pyramid of Giza
The entrance of the pyramid is on the North face and the king’s chamber is located at the center of the pyramid which is only accessible through the grand gallery. On the other side there are a number of galleries, escape shafts and corridors which lead the way to the kings burial chamber and might have also been planned to serve some other purpose.
