Raja Babu was one of the great comedian and actor in Telugu film industry. He entertained audience with his comedy.

Raja Babu Personal life

Raja Babu’s original name is Punyamurthula Appalaraju. He was born on 20 October 1937 in Rajamundry, East Godavari district of Andhra Pradesh. His father name is Punyamurthula Umamaheswara Rao and mother name is Ramanamma. Raja Babu has five sisters and four brothers among them two brothers (Chitti Babu and Ananth Babu) are also comedian actors.

Raja Babu completed 10+2, after that he had done teacher training and worked as Telugu teacher for few years. At younger age he used to act in dramas. He acted in few dramas like Naalugilla Chaavadi, Alluri Sitarama Raju and Kukka pilla dorikindi.

In the year 1965 he married Lakshmi Ammalu who was the sister-in-law of a writer named Sri Sri. They have two sons Nagendra Babu and Mahesh Babu. He died on 07 February 1983 at the age of 45 years in Hyderabad, Andhra Pradesh. In 2012, a 9 ft bronze statue of Rajababu was unveiled in Rajahmundry (his birth place).

Raja Babu Film Career

By seeing his good acting skills he was invited by one of the director named Garikapati Raja Rao. After reaching Madras in 1960 he used to live on tuitions before getting opportunity in the film industry. Later he was given a chance to act in a movie (Samajam) by the director Addala Narayana Rao.

He impressed audience with his slapstick comedy. In less than twenty years he acted in 589 movies. Ramaprabha was the one who appeared in most of the movies as his opposite. They both together were considered as the best comedy couple in films. Other than Ramaprabha, Gitanjali, Leela Rani and Prasanna Rani also acted with Raja Babu.

He also acted as hero in some movie like Tata Manavadu, Pichodi Pelli, Manishi Rodduna Paddadu, Evariki Vare Yamuna Teere, Thirupathi. In the movie Tata manavadu he played the character as a grandson of S.V. Ranga Rao and Anjali Devi. This movie was directed by Dasari Narayana Rao.

Raja Babu also produced some movies like Evariki Vaare Yamuna Teeru and Manishi Rodduna Paddadu under Bob and Bob Productions.
